Japan is the world’s 2nd largest steel producing country & the nation’s billet exports plunged by around 5.19% in H1 CY18 against H2 CY17, data from the Japan customs showed.
The nation’s billet exports were recorded at 1,934,204 MT during H1 CY18, which was 2,040,121 MT during the calendar year of H2 2017. In line in H1 CY18 the billet exports decline by 1.10% as against 1,955,860 MT in H1 CY17.
In June’18, Japan has exported about 320,419 MT billet, decline by around 12% M-o-M against 364,058 MT in May’18.
In context with top unload countries in H1 CY18, Taiwan remains the largest importer of Japanese billet, whose imports stood at 849,889 MT against 907,701 MT in H2 CY17, decline by around 3.61%. While in H1 CY17, Taiwan imported 765,329 MT of Japanese billet.
Further in H1 CY18, Taiwan contributed around 44% of billet imports from Japan, followed by major importers like – South Korea (26.97%), Thailand (12.69%), Philippines (5.82%), United States (4.76%), China (3.25%) & Indonesia (1.97%).
In additional, billet exports to United States fall drastically and stood at 92,035 MT in H1 CY18 as against 202,925 MT in H1 2017 & 171,758 MT in H2 CY17
— In H1 2018, the crude steel production of Japan fall slightly by 1.26% & stood at around 52.98 MnT against 52.32 MnT in H1 2017, according to the World Steel Association
— The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 500-510/MT FoB India, 125*125 3sp at USD 490-500/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 at USD 520-530/MT FoB China.
— Iron ore imports of Japan in H1 CY18 fall marginally by 1% & stood at 62.91 MnT against 63.44 MnT in H2 CY17.
