This substantial downslide in the country’s import volumes can be primarily attributed to the subdued demand in Asian countries, especially China and India.

The Chinese government’s tightening clampdown on steel and coke output capacities as well as stringent port restrictions have largely constrained coal procurement activity, though the prevailing level of imported met coke prices sold into China have been quite reasonable for most end-users. Also, the Indian market remained quiet due to the onset of monsoon season.
