Philippines Billet Imports Jump Two-fold in Jan-May’18

Billet imports in Philippines reported a sharp gain of 97%, close to double in the first 5 months of 2018, as per the recent data released by Philippines custom.

The nation has imported about 1.34 MnT Billet in Jan-May’18 against 0.68 MnT in Jan-May’17, surge by 97.05% on yearly premises. During this period (Jan-May’18), Russia has exported approximately 44% billet (0.59 MnT) to the nation. Prior to this, in CY17 (Jan-Dec) the country’s billet import was around 2.12 MnT & major imports were done from Russia (35.21%)

Further, on Y-o-Y in May 2018 imports registered a gain of around 111% & stood at 0.36 MnT against 0.17 MnT in May 2017.

While on month basis, imports inclined by more than 100% in May’18 against 0.17 in Apr’18. And the largest exporter of Billet to Philippines was Russia – 0.15 MnT, followed by Thailand (0.04 MnT), Taiwan (0.03 MnT) & Qatar (0.03 MnT).

Similarly, in the total billet imports during 2018 (Jan-May), the major sellers of billet to Philippines was – Russia (43.80%), Saudi Arabia (11.43%), Qatar (6.06%), Japan (5.84%), Taiwan (5.38%) & India (4.68%).

In context to export prices, the export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 495-510/MT FoB India, 150*150 Q235 are at USD 515-525/MT FoB China & 125*125 3sp at USD 495-505/MT FoB Ukraine.
