Billet exports from the top exporter – Russia, registered a slight downfall of about 8.66% M-o-M in May’18, as per custom data maintained by SteelMint stats.
As per SteelMint’s statistics report, the nation has exported around 1.37 MnT billet in the month of May’18 against 1.50 MnT in Apr’18. Prior to this, on M-o-M in Apr’18 it decreased about 5.06% against 1.58 MnT in Mar’18. On yearly premises, billet exports decline by 16.10% in May’18 against 1.18 MnT in May’17.
Further, in the first five months of CY18 (Jan-May), Billet exports inclined marginally by 12.19% to 6.81 MnT against 6.07 MnT in same preceding CY17. On yearly calculations, the Billet export was around 14.38 MnT in CY17 (Jan-Dec) & in CY 2016 at 15.16 MnT.
Taiwan has imported approximately 24.08% (0.33 MnT) billet from Russia and maintains the top number in May 2018, followed by Mexico (0.27 MnT) & Turkey (0.17 MnT). Taiwan imported around 22.91% of the total billet exported by Russia in the CY18 (Jan-May).
As per the SteelMint’s assessment, the export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 515-520/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 500-510/MT FoB Ukraine & 125*125 are at USD 515-520/MT CNF Turkey.
— During the first five months of 2018, Russia’s ferrous scrap exports recorded at 2.15 MnT (Jan-May’18), surge by 47.26% Y-o-Y as against 1.46 MnT in the same period of last year.
— As per the sources, Semi-finished steel sales of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK), Russia’s largest steelmaker, rose by 31% Y-o-Y in Q2 2018 to 1.65 MnT.
— Sources reported, last week a cargo of CIS-origin billet shipped from Russia’s port to the country’s Far East province within the range of USD 540-545/MT CFR to Thailand.
— A cargo of Russia-origin billet booked by Turkish mill owners at around USD 510/MT CFR, which would be equivalent to around USD 495/MT FoB Black Sea- Sources.
