Coking Coal Imports in India Rise 11.5% M-o-M in Jun’18

In Jun’18, Indian coking coal imports stood at around 4.23 MnT, according to the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

An analysis of the data shows that the imports during the month under review were around 11.57% higher than the imports of around 3.80 MnT in the previous month.

On year-on-year comparison, the Jun’18 imports were almost at par with the imports of around 4.20 MnT in Jun’17.

A break-up of the origins of imports shows that Indian coking coal imports from Australia constituted the highest share, at around 73%; followed by the imports from Canada, at around 10%.

Among the ports in the country, the Paradip port had handled the highest volume of import traffic during the month, followed by the Haldia, Vizag and Dhamra ports.
