Sweden – one of the major scrap exporter country among EU-28 has witnessed a considerable rise by 21% M-o-M in its scrap exports in Apr’18 as compared with its scrap exports recorded in Mar’18. As per recent customs data, Sweden exported 111,834 MT ferrous scrap in Apr’18 as against 92,096 MT exports recorded in Mar’18.
On yearly basis, the country witnessed 18% Y-o-Y rise in ferrous scrap exports in Apr’18 as against 94,658 MT exports in Apr’17.
In Apr’18, global scrap prices corrected downward significantly against its earlier months’ prices which could have resulted in the improved demand from major importers like Turkey, USA, Denmark and Germany for Sweden ferrous scrap also.
United States remained largest importer of scrap from Sweden in Apr’18 – United States imported 31,139 MT ferrous scrap occupying 28% share in total scrap imports. On the other hand, as against nil scrap imports recorded in Mar’18, Turkey, second largest importer has imported 15,691 MT in Apr’18 from Sweden.
Prominent importers like Norway and Pakistan have witnessed fall in scrap imports from Sweden importing 12,961 MT (-28% M-o-M) and 6,029 MT (-41% M-o-M) scrap respectively in Apr’18. Followed by other major importers like Denmark (6,042 MT, +23% M-o-M) and Germany (6,051 MT, +39% M-o-M).

Ferrous scrap exports from Sweden fell 14% Y-o-Y during Jan-Apr’18 – The country exported 395,800 MT ferrous scrap in the first four months of CY18 as against 460,954 MT ferrous scrap exports during the same period last year.
Fall in scrap imports from the major importers like Turkey, United States and Germany could have resulted in fall in Sweden scrap exports. Over less clarity on new trade regulations, USA witnessed sharp fall in scrap imports registering 36% Y-o-Y fall during Jan-Apr’18.
Turkey remained largest scrap importer from Sweden during Jan-Apr’18 – Turkey imported highest 92,985 MT occupying 23% share of total scrap exports during first four months CY18. USA remained second largest importer and occupied 16% share. Followed by other prominent importers like Norway, Pakistan, Denmark and Germany occupying 14%, 9%, 6% and 5% share respectively.
According to World Steel Association, Sweden’s crude steel production stood nearly stable during Jan-Apr’18 which recorded at 2.06 MnT as against 2.035 MnT steel produced during same period last year.
