Indonesian Coal Exports

Indonesian Jan-April Coal Exports Climb 9.75% Y-o-Y

Indonesia shipped 138.035 MnT of the power-station fuel in the first four months of this year, a 9.75 % increase from 125.77 MnT in the same period last year, data from Bank Indonesia, the country’s central bank showed.

The central bank didn’t provide details for the increase. But robust demand from China and India have boosted Indonesia’s overseas coal shipments since last year and lifted prices.

“The main factors are still China and India. Their domestic coal production didn’t perform well in the first months of this year. And that had increased their requirement for imported coal,” said a trader in one of top five Indonesia’s producers.

Exports in Apr’18 dropped 12.6% to 33.25 MnT from Mar’18, but it was up 0.72% from 33.012 MnT in Apr’17.
