Bahrain Iron Ore Imports stable; Pellet Exports Up 27% in May’18

Bahrain has recorded stability in monthly iron ore imports at 1.12 MnT in May’18. However, the Y-o-Y imports recorded increase to more than twice as against May’17 imports at 0.48 MnT.

For the duration Jan-May’18, the country recorded a sharp rise in imports by 55% to 3.56 MnT as compared to 2.3 MnT for the same period last year (Jan-May’17). Brazil stood the largest iron ore exporter for Jan-May’18 at 2.8 MnT (up 42% Y-o-Y), followed by Chile at 0.34 MnT (stable Y-o-Y).

Country-wise Iron Ore Imports:

Brazil stood the largest exporter of iron ore to Bahrain in May’18 at 0.97 MnT (stable M-o-M), contributing 87% share of total Bahrain iron ore imports. The remaining 13% imports were contributed by Canada at 0.15 MnT.

Bahrain Iron Pellets Exports Surge 27% M-o-M in May’18

The country exports recorded at 0.66 MnT in May’18, up 27% M-o-M as against Apr’18 exports at 0.52 MnT. However, on yearly basis, exports recorded a decline of 27% as against May’17 exports at 0.9 MnT. Oman recorded the highest imports for the month of May’18 at 0.26 MnT (down 33% M-o-M) as against 0.39 MnT in Apr’18. Saudi Arabia stood second largest importer at 0.16MnT (up by more than three fold M-o-M) followed by UAE at 0.15 MnT.

Bahrain exported 0.09 MnT to Essar Steel, India in the month of May’18.

Bahrain pellet exports for CY’17 recorded at 6.73 MnT. Oman stood the largest importer at 2.5 MnT (37% of total Bahrain’s pellet export), followed by Qatar with 22% share and UAE with 21% of total export share. Indian pellet imports from Bahrain recorded at 0.38 MnT, accounting for 6% of total yearly exports by the country.
