According to latest customs data released, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils),7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) stood at 2.12 MnT in May’18 ,rose by 15% on monthly basis against 1.85 MnT in Apr’18.
On yearly basis nation’s flat steel offers remain unchanged in May’17 and May’18 at 2.12 MnT.
The latest figures show moderate strength in Japan’s steel export as the nation continue to exports with no clear signs so far of recent trade tensions weighing on Japan’s trade with the rest of the world.However steel exports to the U.S.A reported decline.Thus,exports have been a key strength for the Japanese economy amid softness in domestic demand.
In first five months ( Jan- May) of CY18 nation’s flat steel exports stood at 10.32 MnT,down by 4% against 10.75 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.

Country-wise Japan flat steel exports in May’18– China remained the largest flat steel importer of Japan and procured 0.31 MnT in May’18,decline by 14% against 0.36 MnT in Apr’18.
Second largest importer was Thailand at 0.37 MnT in May’18, increased by 28% against 0.29 MnT in Apr’18.
Third largest importer was South Korea at 0.23 MnT,remain unchanged since past two months.
Other major importers were Vietnam at 0.16 MnT ,Indonesia at 0.12 MnT followed by Mexico at 0.19 MnT,Malaysia at 0.10 MnT and India at 0.10 MnT in May’18.
