Japan, the world’s 2nd largest steel producer has inflated its long steel exports in the month of May’18 on monthly premises.
As per the customs, the nation has exported about 210,000 MT Finish Long steel in May 2018; increased by 10.52% against 190,000 MT in Apr 2018. On contrary Y-o-Y, exports were fell by around 4.54% against 220,000 MT in May’17.
Bar’s & Rods have contributed the major exports proportionate and registered at 150,000 MT (71.42%) followed by Angle and Shapes 60,000 MT (28.57%) and remaining was Wire Rod 10,000 MT.
As per SteelMint’s assessment in May 2018, the crude steel production of the Japan hits 3 years high in May to around 9.09 MnT which has been stretched up by around 4.24% M-o-M, against 8.72 MnT in Apr 2018.
Country wise:
In the month of May 2018, the largest importer of Finish Long Steel from Japan was South Korea – 60,000 MT followed by Thailand – 30,000 MT & China, USA along with Taiwan stood at 20,000 MT each.

1. The South Korea Trade Commission has requested the Ministry of Trade to extend 13.17% additional duty for three years on imports of Stainless steel plate from Japan as per reports.
2. Import duties in Indonesia for all upstream steel products origin by Japan – HRC, CRC, plate & wire rod duties raised to 15%; galvanized & coated sheet raised to 20% & on rebar raised to 17.5% as per reports.
