Australia: Iron Ore Export Shipments Increase 9% in May’18

Australia – world’s largest iron ore exporter has recorded increase in export shipments in May’18. The exports witnessed at 78.20 MnT, up 9% on monthly basis as against being 72.05 MnT in Apr’18.

However, on yearly basis the May’18 exports marked increase of 8% against 72.66 MnT in May’17.

For CY’18 (Jan-May’18) Australia’s iron ore export shipments witnessed an increase of 5% to 356.11 MnT compared to 338.43 MnT in the same period last year.

Indian Iron ore Import from Australia Increased Sharply during Jan-May’18

China continued to record the highest iron ore imports from Australia in May’18 witholding 81% share of total Australian iron ore export. It depicted an increase of 7% of imports M-o-M at 63.70 MnT in May’18 as against 59.63 MnT in Apr’18. Japan at 6.03 MnT stood the second highest importer of Australian iron ore in May’18 (up 16% M-o-M) as against 5.19 MnT in Apr’18, followed by South Korea at 5.53 MnT (up 24% M-o-M) and Taiwan at 1.52 MnT (up 12% M-o-M).

Australia’s iron ore export to India recorded at 0.56 MnT in May’18, up marginally on monthly basis. However, Indian iron ore imports for Jan-May’18 witnessed a significant increased at 2.5 MnT as against being nil for same period last year.

India’s prominent steelmaker- JSW Steel has significantly raised its iron ore imports from Australia in the last few months.

Port Headland iron ore exports up 10% in May’18

In May’18, Port Headland marked the largest exporter at 46.11 MnT, up 10% M-o-M as compared to 41.83 MnT in Apr’18, followed by Walcott at 17.41MnT (up 11% M-o-M) and Dampier at 13.05 MnT (Up 5% M-o-M).
