As per latest custom data,Taiwan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils/Plates),7209(CR coils),7225(Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) witness the downfall of 9% on monthly basis in Apr’18.
Country’s flat steel exports stood at 0.73 MnT in Apr’18 which was 0.80 MnT in Mar’18.
However on yearly premise the same inched up marginally by 3% in Apr’18 against 0.71 MnT in Apr’17.
During first five months of CY18 ( Jan-Apr) nation has exported 2.96 MnT ,moved up by 3.4% against 2.86 MnT in Jan-Apr’CY17.
Taiwan flat steel exports drop amid increased domestic production in Vietnam – According to VSA numbers (Vietnam Steel Association) the local production of steel in Vietnam stood at 9.67 MnT by the end of May’18, an increase of 24% against the corresponding period of previous year.
Application of advanced technology is helping Vietnam’s steel sector produce more sophisticated products and reduce reliance on imports.
In May’18, Vietnam’s one of the key steel player Formosa Ha Tinh Corporation (FHS) which held an annual capacity of 3.5 MnT has started its second blast furnace doubling its crude steel capacity to 7 MnT per annum. With this Vietnam will be able to produce more steel and its dependency on imports from China/Taiwan will also be reduced.

Country-Wise Taiwan Flat Steel Exports in Apr’18- Taiwan flat steel majorly exports flat steel to Vietnam.In Apr’18 nation has exported 0.08 MnT,decline by 20% against 0.10 MnT Mar’18.
Second major importer was China which stood at 0.08 MnT in Apr’18,fell by 27% against 0.11 MnT in Mar’18.
Meanwhile Japan also exported 0.09 MnT in Apr’18 which was 0.06 MnT in Mar’18.
Other major importers were Malaysia which stood at 0.07 MnT ,Spain at 0.06 MnT followed by Belguim at 0.05 MnT and USA at 0.02 Mnt in Apr’18.
