Odisha contributes entirely towards Indian Chrome Ore production. TATA Steel, being, one of the largest miners in the region dispatched 130,310 MT of chrome ore in May’18 against 113,079 MT in Apr’18. The company has witnessed an increase of about 15% in the dispatch of the commodity on M-o-M basis. TATA Steel held 22,753 MT for captive consumption in May’18, which is 26% higher to what it was in Apr’18.
OMC, on the other hand, recorded a marginal decrease of 3% M-o-M in its May’18 Chrome Ore dispatches. OMC dispatched 74,078 MT of Chrome Ore in May’18 against 76,126 MT in Apr’18. B.C. Mohanty & Sons registered a massive increase of about 343% while Saurabhil Chromite Mines witnessed a substantial increase of 79% on M-o-M basis on May’18.
At the beginning of May’18, the Ferro Chrome prices almost bottomed out but low inventory levels with stainless-steel producers and traders in China triggered the demand, lifting the prices upwards eventually.
