Trade statistics released by Canada customs shows that the iron ore exports by the country recorded at 3.23 MnT in Apr’18. The exports witnessed increase of 13% M-o-M as against 2.85 MnT in Mar’18.
On yearly basis, the exports in Apr’18 witnessed rise of 24% as compared to Apr’17 exports at 2.6 MnT.
For the duration Jan-Apr’18, Canadian iron ore exports recorded at 12.38 MnT, up 7% against same period last year (Jan-Apr’17) at 11.54 MnT.
The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) depicted rise of 31% M-o-M to 2.3 MnT in Apr’18 as against 1.75 MnT in Mar’18. The Y-o-Y exports marked rise of 48% in Apr’18 as against Apr’17 exports at 1.55 MnT.
Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) exports in Apr’18 witnessed at 0.92 MnT, down 16% M-o-M as compared to Mar’18 exports at 1.1 MnT. The Y-o-Y exports depicted decline of 12% in Apr’18 as against Apr’17 exports at 1.05 MnT.
Canadian iron ore export to China up almost two times in Apr’18
In Apr’18, China stood the largest importer of Canadian iron ore at 0.71 MnT, up 92% as against last month imports at 0.37 MnT. France stood the second largest importer at 0.61 MnT (up 61% M-o-M), followed by Japan at 0.5 MnT (down 6% M-o-M).
Netherland and Germany recorded significant increase in imports for the month at 0.4 MnT (up more than two folds M-o-M) and 0.25 MnT (up more than twice on monthly basis) respectively.
China traders and steel mills owner are looking for high grade iron ore to curb pollution under strict govt. regulation, perhaps in that process they have increased shipment sharply from Canada.
