Billet Imports in Turkey moved up by 69% Y-o-Y in Apr’18, the recent released data by Turkey’s custom showed.
As per the customs, the nation has imported about 0.54 MnT Billet in April 2018 against 0.32 MT in April 2017, surge by 68.75% on yearly premises. On the contrary M-o-M, imports were down by 14.28% against 0.63 MnT in Mar’18.
During April 2018, the largest exporter of Billet to Turkey was Russia – 0.21 MnT, Ukraine at 0.14 MnT & Brazil – 0.07 MnT.
Further, on yearly basis, in calendar year of 2018 (Jan-Apr), the imports incline by 30.76% to 2.04 MnT against same preceding last year at 1.56 MnT.
As per the SteelMint’s assessment in April 2018, the crude steel production of the Turkey was around 2.95 MnT and 3.03 MnT in April 2017. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 37.33 MnT, & 33.16 MnT in CY16, as per WSA.

— Turkey imported 1,900,820 MT ferrous scrap in Apr’18 witnessing a rise of 4% M-o-M as against 1,833,994 MT ferrous scrap imports in Mar’18.
— The reference index price for US origin HMS (80:20) scrap stood at USD 345/MT, CNF Turkey, prices increased by around USD 2/MT on recent trade activities.
— Billet offers from CIS nations for Turkey are assessed at USD 520-530/MT CFR, however no major deals were concluded in the last week
— Turkey has recorded a decline of 31% M-o-M iron ore imports in Apr’18 & stood at 0.77 MnT as against 1.11 MnT in Mar’18.
— The US decision to impose its 25% Section 232 tariff on steel imports from the EU, Canada and Mexico was expected to increase demand for Turkish rebar. As per SteelMint’s last assessment (8th June), Turkish Rebar export offers are assessed at USD 540-545/MT FoB.
