Turkey’s coal import has fallen to its lowest monthly total for CY18 in Apr’18. As per the data provided by Turkish customs, coal import by the country has fell 12% on the month to 2.86 MnT in Apr’18, compared with 3.26 MnT in Mar’18.
However, on the yearly basis, imports had increased 23% from 2.33 MnT in Apr’17.
During the first 4 months of CY18, Turkey’s coal import has increased 6% Y-o-Y to 13.47 MnT against the import of 12.74 MnT coal recorded during Jan’17-Apr’17.
Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Turkey’s Non-coking coal imports had decreased 6% M-o-M to 2.1 MnT in Apr’18 compared with 2.23 MnT in Mar’18.
Imports of Pet coke and Anthracite were also down in Apr’18. Whereas Coking coal imports had increased 15% on the month to 0.38 MnT in Apr’18.
Met coke imports remain almost unchanged at 0.08 MnT during the month.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Exporters:
Colombia remained the largest coal exporter to Turkey in Apr’18, followed by Russia, and the US. Amongst the top 6 major coal exporters, only China had recorded growth in monthly exports during Apr’18.
Colombia had recorded a fall in coal exports for the second monthly in a row, while posting exports of 1.25 MnT coal in Apr’18. Coal export decreased 11% on the month from 1.4 MnT in Mar’18, but was 74% higher on the year from 0.72 MnT in Apr’17.
Russian coal export was down 7% M-o-M to 0.87 MnT in Apr’18, but was 23% higher on the year compared to 0.71 MnT in Apr’17.
US coal exports to Turkey had fallen both on the monthly and yearly basis, marked at 0.37 MnT in Apr’18. Turkey had turned to Australia after a month’s gap to procure 0.14 MnT coal in Apr’18.
