Turkey: Iron Ore Import Declines 31% M-o-M in Apr’18

The tenth largest importer of Iron ore, Turkey has recorded a decline of iron ore imports in Apr’18. The imports recorded at 0.77 MnT in Apr’18, down 31% M-O-M as against 1.11 MnT in Mar’18. However, Y-o-Y imports recorded a slight increase of 3% in Apr’18 as against 0.75 MnT in Apr’17.

Turkey’s crude steel production for Apr’18 witnessed at 3.0 MnT, down 11% on monthly basis as against 3.37 MnT in Mar’18. For Jan-Apr’18, the crude steel production recorded at 12.49 MnT, down marginally as against 11.88 MnT for same period previous year.

For the duration Jan-Apr’18, the country recorded a fall of 19% in imports at 3.2 MnT as compared to 3.95 MnT for same period last year (Jan-Apr’17).

The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) witnessed a reduction of 52% M-o-M imports to 0.35 MnT in Apr’18 as against 0.73 MnT in Mar’18. The Y-o-Y imports witnessed a decline of 33% in Apr’18 as against 0.52 MnT in Apr’17.

Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) recorded a rise of 8% in monthly imports at 0.42 MnT for Apr’18 as compared to 0.39 MnT in Mar’18. The Y-o-Y import stood up by 83% in Apr’18 as compared to Apr’17 imports at 0.23 MnT.

Country-wise Turkey Iron Ore Imports:

Brazil continued to be the largest exporter of iron ore to Turkey in Apr’18 at 0.27 MnT (down 4% M-o-M), contributing 35% share of total Turkey iron ore imports, followed by Sweden 0.25 MnT (up 56% M-o-M) Russia at 0.14 MnT and Ukraine 0.11MnT.

Russia and Ukraine marked significant increase in imports M-o-M in Apr’18 at 0.14 MnT (up more than four folds) and 0.11 MnT (up more than thrice) respectively.

Turkey recorded nil imports from South Korea, Canada, and Australia in Apr’18, which cumulatively contributed 55% of total imports in Mar’18.
