Japan is the second-largest steel exporter in the world.Nation has exported 1.85 MnT of flat steel in Apr’18, lowest since last 6 years 3 months low.
According to latest customs data released, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils),7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) stood at 1.85 MnT hit the lowest since last six years.In Jan’12 Japan flat steel exports recorded at 1.84 MnT.
On monthly basis country has exported 1.85 MnT of flat steel in Apr’18 decline by 17% against 2.24 MnT in Mar’18.
On yearly basis the same decline by 8% in Apr’18 against 2.01 MnT in Apr’17.
During first four months ( Jan- Apr) of CY18 nation’s flat steel exports stood at 8.2 MnT,down by 5% against 8.63 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
As per Japan Iron and steel federation severe drop in nation’s export volumes is due to strong domestic demand from auto and construction industries.Also USA trade tariffs has affected the volume of exports from Japan

Country-wise Japan flat steel exports in Apr’18- China remained the largest flat steel importer of Japan and procured 0.36 MnT which remain largely stable compared to Mar’18.
Second largest importer was Thailand at 0.29 MnT in Apr’18, decline by 22% against 0.37 MnT in Mar’18.Third largest importer was South Korea at 0.23 MnT down by 30% against 0.33 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
Other major importers were Vietnam at 0.16 MnT ,Indonesia at 0.13 MnT followed by Mexico at 0.09 MnT,Malaysia at 0.07 MnT and India at 0.08 MnT in Apr’18.
