Australian coking coal threatens supply disruptions on BHP Billiton mineworkers strike

BHP Billiton Ltd global resource company in North Eastern Australia faces mine workers strike over a issue of new employment agreement. This strike could be the threatening factor, which indicates the further supply disruptions from coal rich Bowen Basin region in Queensland State, which is still recovering from heavy rains, and floods earlier in the year.

A strike could also put pressure on prices of coking coal. Although Queensland produces mostly coking coal used for steelmaking it does produce some thermal coal and any such concern could cause production losses and reduce supplies.
