Anthracite coal offers to India have remained almost stable so far this fiscal year due to sluggish demand and lackluster market sentiment. There is also no prospect for any upturn in anthracite coal consumption by the country’s end-users.
That being said, the anthracite import offers might increase with coking coal prices rising in the Australian market. As a matter of fact, prices of both the coal types are interrelated as anthracite coal can be blended with coking coal for coke formation during steelmaking.
Even then, such price variations would not bear an impact upon Indian market conditions as the buyers prefer using alternate cheaper fuels.

On the pricing front, there was no downturn in the international offers for the coal in the past week due to strong international demand.
The latest offers for anthracite coal linger around USD 136/MT FoB, which translates into around USD 149/MT CFR India; unchanged from the preceding weekly assessments.
