One of the units of SAIL – Rourkela Steel plant (RSP) has invited a tender of 33,750 MT pellets. The plant has capacity to produce 4.5 MnT of hot metal, 4.2 MnT of crude steel of 3.9 MnT of saleable steel. As per sources, the company is facing a shortage of lumps owing to hampered movement from its captive mines because of which the company is in immediate need of pellets.
The company has announced last date of tender submission on 30th May’18 till 16:00 hrs (IST).
Techno-Commercial bid as well as price bid shall remain valid for minimum 90 days from the date of tender opening (31st May’18).
Steelmaker mentioned certain criteria like bid comparison will be made on Total landed cost net of set off value basis, and delivery shall be commenced on monthly or fortnightly programme issued by the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The company also mandated mode of delivery to be through rail.

SAIL RSP increased steel capacity at its blast furnace – Rourkela Steel Plant is the first integrated plant in the Public Sector in India. The RSP’s blast furnace Parvati (SAIL’s first blast furnace) has been rebuilt in May, with volume extension from 1139 cubic meter to 1710 cubic meter, which is expected to increase the production to 1.015 MnT per annum from prior 0.438 MnT per annum.
SAIL resumes iron ore operations at Barsua mines – SAIL’s Barsua iron ore mine, has resumed operations on 20th May after a gap of four years. The mine has capacity to produce of 3.5 MnT per annum and used to primarily supply iron ore to Rourkela and Bokaro Steel Plants.
The lightning of RSP’s blast furnace together with resumption of Barsua mine is expected to leverage benefits of iron ore availability to SAIL steel plants.
SAIL is expected to install hot strip mill of 3 MnT per annum at RSP by the end of 2018.
Towards the beginning of previous week, SAIL’s Bokaro Steel plant invited a tender of 300,000 MT pellets, with due date for techno-commercial bid on and before 19th June 2018 till 14:30 hrs (IST).
Domestic Pellet Prices in Eastern India remain firm
In Durgapur (eastern India) Reference pellet price assessment stands at INR 5,800/MT (delivered) this week. Pellet prices in Durgapur have decreased up to INR 100/MT W-o-W.
