Odisha (Jharsuguda) based pellet maker – Shyam Metaliks & Energy is going to set up a new pellet plant in Jharsuguda with 0.6 MnT by the end of 2018. They are already running 0.6 MnT pellet unit in Jharsuguda and adding one more unit will increase its capacity by 1.2 MnT, reported by SteelMint sources.
They are also setting up a 600 TPD Klin for DRI production in Jharsuguda which will be commenced by the end of this year, according to the market participants.
SteelMint has also learned from the sources that they are currently using all the material from last quite few weeks for captive consumption and the pellet from the new unit will be offered for merchant market.
Recently Odisha’s merchant iron ore miner and steel making group – KJS Ahluwalia has commenced pellet production in Barbil Odisha. Sri Jagannath Steel & Power – a subsidiary under KJS Ahluwalia group has been heard to have commenced commercial pellet production at its pellet plant with 1.2 MnT p.a. capacity.
India has a pellet capacity of around 85 MnT. Eastern India accounts for a maximum number of pellet manufacturing units and holds more than 50% share in total pellet capacity of India. Odisha stands highest among all eastern states with around 30 MnT capacity followed by Chhattisgarh around 9 MnT, Jharkhand around 8.4 MnT and West Bengal around 2.4 MnT.
With the commencement of operations at the new pellet, availability will increase.
