Mongolian Coal Exports Up 3% M-o-M in Apr’18

Mongolian coal exports have witnessed an increase of 3% M-o-M to 3.55 MnT in Apr’18, compared with 3.46 MnT in Mar’18. Coal export by the country was also 4% higher on the year than the volume attained in Apr’17.

Total exports comprised of 3.19 MnT Bituminous coal, while Anthracite coal quantity stood 0.02 MnT in Apr’18.

China had received nearly 99% of the total coal supplied by Mongolia in Apr’18. Chinese coal import were up 6% on the month recorded at 3.54 MnT in Apr’18.

The remaining coal quantity was supplied to the UK, whose import had remained almost constant on the month, but had noted a fall of 86% Y-o-Y from 0.07 MnT in Apr’17.

Unlike Mar’18, no Mongolian coal shipment to Hong Kong and Singapore were recorded during the month of Apr’18.

During the first 4 months of CY18, Mongolian coal exports by the country have totaled 10.16 MnT, down 11% Y-o-Y compared with 11.43 MnT in the same period last year. Coal exports have recorded higher gains on the year-on-year basis during Mar’18-Apr’18, recovering from the downfall in Jan’18-Feb’18.
