According to Chinese customs, the country has witnessed a substantial increase of 30% M-o-M in its Chrome Ore imports in Mar’18.
China imported 1.55 MnT Chrome Ore in Mar’18 against 1.19 MnT in Feb’18. Moreover, on yearly basis, Chinese Chrome Ore imports recorded a marginal increase of 3% as it was 1.51 MnT in Mar’17.
A rise in Chrome Ore imports by China can be attributed to the optimism of Ferro Chrome producers who were of the view that Chinese market will open on a positive note post-lunar year. Moreover, there was also anticipation that the tender price by Chinese stainless steel major will raise their purchase price in march’18.
South Africa, is the largest exporter of Chrome Ore to China and has witnessed an increase of 28% M-o-M as it exported 1.11 MnT in Mar’18 against 0.87 MnT in Feb’18. Turkey, Zimbabwe, and Oman were also significant Chrome Ore exporters to China among others.
