China: Manganese Ore Imports Marginally Up in Mar’18

According to Chinese customs, the country has witnessed a marginal increase of 1% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore imports in Mar’18.

China imported 1.9 MnT in Mar’18 against 1.88 MnT in Feb’18. However, on yearly basis, Chinese Manganese Ore imports recorded a substantial decrease of 17% as it was 2.28 MnT in Mar’17.

China maintained its import levels as high Manganese Ore prices created an uneasiness in the market when demand for the alloy was losing its ground owing to weakening steel market.

South Africa, is the largest exporter of Manganese Ore to China and has witnessed an increase of 12% M-o-M as it exported 0.84 MnT in Mar’18 against 0.75 MnT in Feb’18. Australia, Ghana, and Gabon were also significant Manganese Ore exporters to China among others.
