Indian Chrome Ore Production Down by 5% M-o-M in FY18

Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 4.27 MnT in FY18. It is about 5% below the production witnessed in FY18.

The captive, as well as the merchant miners, witnessed a fall of 5% each in their production levels in FY18 against FY17.

However, on monthly basis, the Chrome Ore production by India recorded a substantial increase of 32% M-o-M in Mar’18.

Production level by captive miners went up by 28% M-o-M in Mar’18. All the captive miners witnessed an increase on monthly basis with IDCOL registering a massive rise of more than 450% in its production. FACOR witnessed a substantial increase of 40% on a monthly basis while Balasore Alloys of 28% followed by IMFA, which recorded an increase of 12% M-o-M.

OMC registered a massive increase of 109% M-o-M in its production, recorded at 421,073 MT in Mar’18 against 201,286 MT in Feb’18. B.C. Mohanty & Sons, on the other hand, registered an increase of 39% M-o-M in its production.

TATA Steel, one of the largest merchant miners in the country, registered a fall of 30% M-o-M in its production in Mar’18, while Saurabhil Chromite Mines registered a decrease of 13% M-o-M.
