Trade statistics released by Canada customs shows that the iron ore exports by the country were recorded at 3.81 MnT in Feb’18. The exports witnessed an increase of 53% M-o-M in Feb’18 as against 2.49 MnT in Jan’18.
On yearly basis, the exports increased by 28% in Feb’18 as against 2.97 MnT Feb’17.
For Jan-Feb’18, France stood the largest importer of Canadian iron ore at 1.16 MnT, up 6% as against same period last year (Jan-Feb’17). China stood the second largest importer at 0.99 MnT (up twice Y-o-Y), followed by Japan at 0.83 MnT (down 19% Y-o-Y).
The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) depicted rise of 31% M-o-M to 1.84 MnT in Feb’18 as against 1.4 MnT in Jan’18. The Y-o-Y exports recorded an increase of 12% in Feb’18 as against 1.65 MnT in Feb’17.
Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) witnessed significant rise in exports by 81% to 1.97 MnT in Feb’18 as against 1.09 MnT in Jan’18. The Y-o-Y exports also recorded increase in Feb’18 by 49% as compared to Feb’17 which stood at 1.32 MnT.
Canada iron ore exports to Japan increased three fold M-o-M:
Japan stood the largest importer of Canadian iron ore in Feb’18 at 0.66 MnT, up by around thrice the imports a month before, i.e at 0.17 MnT in Jan’18. China marked the second largest importer at 0.51 MnT(up 6% M-o-M), followed by Netherland at 0.45 MnT (up by more than six fold M-o-M) and France (down 51% M-o-M).
UK and Spain have recorded significant rise in Feb’18 imports. UK imports witnessed at 0.31 MnT in Feb’18, against 0.07 MnT in Jan’18 while Spain recorded 0.30 MnT against 0.08 MnT in Jan ’18.
Taiwan and South Korea imported 0.29 MnT and 0.24 MnT respectively in Feb’18, which stood nil a month before.
