>>In a fresh twist to the uncertainty in Petcoke usage in India, the Indian government is learnt to be considering a nationwide ban on the usage of the fuel to curb air pollution. In this context, the Ministry of Environment, Forests && Climatic Change also is learnt to have sought details from the states and union territories of the country on the various steps to be actuated to curb pollution.

The decision on banning Petcoke is expected to be announced within this month.

>>Authorities of Coal India Limited (CIL) have assured the union leaders that CIL will continue to remain dominant even after the starting of the commercial coal mining in the country. The union has announced to observe a strike on 16Apr’18 for protesting against the actuation of commercial coal mining in the country.

>>Power tariffs in India are expected to go up during this summer due to the shortage of coal, affecting the capacity utilization of independent power plants in the country. Last year, spot power prices at energy exchanges in the country went up to as high as INR 11/unit. The same scenario is also likely to be repeated this year.
