According to latest customs data, USA flat steel imports which includes (7208 HR coils/Plates,7209 CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) has imported 0.81 MnT in Feb’18 in comparison to 0.88 MnT in Jan’18.Thus,nation’s flat steel import volumes fell by 8% on monthly basis in Feb’18
Imposition of USA tariffs under Section 232- On 16 Feb’18, U.S. Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross released details of the department’s recommendation to the President Trump after the nine months probe carried under Section 232.
With this recommendation by U.S.’s Commerce department, the highest impact is likely to be seen on South Korea which is country’s largest steel exporter followed by Turkey and Japan.Thus country registered decline in flat steel import volumes in Feb’18.
Similarly on yearly premises country’s flat steel import volumes decline by 4% in Feb’18 against 0.84 MnT in preceding year.
During first two months of (Jan-Feb) of CY18 nation’s flat steel import volumes stood at 1.69 MnT,lower by 6% as compared to 1.79 MnT in corresponding time period of previous year.

Country-Wise USA Flat Steel Imports in Feb’18 – Canada was the largest flat steel importer of USA and imported 0.28 MnT flat steel in Feb’18, less by 10% against 0.31 MnT in Jan’18.
Second largest importer was South Korea at 0.09 MnT in Feb’18 ,increased by 29% on monthly basis against 0.07 MnT in previous month.
Third largest importer of flat steel was Mexico imported 0.07 MnT,decline by 13% on monthly basis which was 0.08 MnT in Jan’18.
Other major flat steel importing nations were Taiwan at 0.04 MnT,Germany at 0.05 MnT Turkey at 0.02 MnT followed by Japan at 0.03 MnT and Vietnam at 0.02 MnT in Feb’18.
