U.S. Imports of Pig iron decline 18% in February

United States Pig iron imports plunged by 18% Y-o-Y in Feb’18, the fresh released data by US customs showed.

The nation has imported about 406,911 MT Pig iron in Feb’18 against 495,300 MT in Feb’17, decline by 17.84% Y-o-Y. In line on monthly basis imports decline by 17.12% against 490,991 MT in Jan’18

During Feb’18 major imports was reported from Russia approximately 59% (239,847 MT) and rest quantities being imported from Ukraine, South Africa & Canada.

Coming to total imports in CY18 (Jan-Feb), the nation has imported about 897,902 MT Pig Iron; surge by 35.30% as compared to 663,629 MT in the same preceding last year. Russia, Ukraine & Brazil was the major Pig Iron exporter to United States which exported about 458,551 MT (51.07%), 304,061 MT (33.86%) & 58,358 MT (6.50%), respectively.

As per the SteelMint analysis, in the month of Feb’18, the crude steel production of United States was around 6.45 MnT, decline by 5.42% M-o-M against 6.82 MnT in Jan’18 and in CY18(Jan-Feb) it was approximately 13.27 MnT, surge by 0.50% against 13.23 MnT in CY17 (Jan-Feb)

The export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are hovering at USD 385-395/MT FoB Russia & USD 385-390/MT FoB Brazil, as per the SteelMint’s last assessment.
