Iran’s Sangan Steel Sets a New Record in Pellet Production

Iran’s Sangan Steel Mining Industries, one of the largest producer of pellet has set a record in pellet production in last Persian year of 1396 (21 Mar’17-20 Mar’18). According to the Public Relation Department of Sangan Steel Mining Industries the company produced around 1,100,000 MT of pellet during the period. Sangan Steel Mineral Industries Co. currently produce more than 13,000 MT pellets daily.

According to the Financial and Economic Deputy, Mr. Hossein Bahmanzadeh “It was anticipated that we would pass through the boundary of 1 MnT, which was realized. There were, of course, restrictions on concentrate supply. Also, in the year 1396, there was factory launch and performance issues and due to which we could not work, however, we were able to get the delivery the plant from the contractor, which was operational in its nominal capacities.”

Speaking about the plans for 1397, Mr. Hossein said “For the year 1397, due to the supply constraints and the type of concentrate we receive it is expected that Sangan might produce 4-5 MnT. In fact, the plan is for the second year is to achieve full capacity.”

First of all, our own concentrate project has made about 60% physical progress. We are facing funding constraints from the National Development Fund and we are not able to attract credit and the project is getting delayed. Another major issue for concentrate project is water supply in the infrastructure, which is why the focus was on the pelletizing unit, which had less water consumption and could have entered the circuit earlier.

Speaking about selling pellets to other steel units other than Mobarakeh Steel, Financial and Economic Deputy said “We sell surplus domestic resources to other units. If we become a steel supplier in Khorasan steel, the pellets share of Hormozgan steel will increase from Gol Gohar. This decision is taken in the group so that we can interact with the Khorasan steel and provide the source for it, and along with it, we can provide the needed pellets for other units that produce sponge iron for Mobarekah or Hormozgan Steel.
