In Jan’18, Coking Coal imports in China were around 17.37% lower than the imports in the preceding month, an analysis of the latest import data released by China Customs shows.
The underlying factor responsible for the shrinkage in the imports during the month was the higher prices of the coal that restricted the buyers there from importing higher volumes of coal.
According to the Customs Data, around 5.06 MnT of the coal was imported in that country against the imports of around 6.12 MnT in Dec’17.
A break-up of the countries of imports during the month shows that the share of imports from Australia accounted for around 56%; followed by Mongolia at around 29& and Russia at around 12%.
