Odisha – India’s largest iron ore producing state has witnessed stability in its output in Feb’18 which was recorded at 7.28 MnT as against 7.42 MnT in Jan’18.
The decline in production so observed was due to suspension at five operating mines including Serajuddin, Essel due to illegal mining case in Odisha which otherwise produce around 15 MnT iron ore annually from the state. However, Essel mining was allowed to resume operations during mid Feb and Serajuddin by around last week of February by Supreme Court.
The Y-o-Y production also witnessed a decrease of 17% in Feb’18 as compared to Feb’17 which stood at 8.78 MnT.
During first eleven months of FY’18, Odisha iron ore production increased by 3% to 88.05 MnT against 85.44 MnT in the same period last Fiscal.
Rungta Mines – India’s largest private merchant miner produced 2.13 MnT ore in Feb’18 as against 2.45 MnT in Jan’18, down 13% M-o-M. Other major miners production stood as follows: Tata Steel at 1.1 MnT (down 2% M-o-M) as against 1.12 MnT in Jan’18, SAIL at 0.66 MnT ( up 18% M-o-M).
Iron ore production of state-owned miner, OMC marked a rise of 18% to 0.92 MnT in Feb’18 as against 0.78 MnT in Jan’18.
Production from Essel Mining & Industries, K.N. Ram and Serajuddin witnessed at 0.15, 0.11 and 0.03 MnT respectively which stood nil a month before.
