India: SAIL Floats 13,500 MT Billet Export Tender

Steel Authority of India – a government of India company has floated export tenders for 13,500 MT billet from its Durgapur Steel plant. The cargo will be shipped from Haldia port.

The tender put up for Prime Mild Steel Non-Alloy Concast billets (125*125mm) offered from Durgapur Steel plant has following specifications – C-0.27-0.32%, Mn-0.7-0.9%, S-0.05% max, P-0.05% max and Si – 0.15-0.35%. The length of the billets is 9-12 metres.

The material shipping is scheduled within 30 Apr’18.

Due date for bid submission is 16:30 hrs as per IST tomorrow (i.e 14 Mar’18).

Recent billet export deals concluded by Indian Steel Mills

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) also known as Vizag Steel had floated a tender for export of 40,000 MT billet and bloom. The steel maker had floated tender for billet : 65*65mm (10,000 MT), 75*75mm (10,000 MT) and bloom 150*150mm (5,000 MT), 200*200mm (15,000 MT).

The steel maker has concluded the export tender for 150*150mm at around USD 515-520/MT, FoB India, 65*65mm at around USD 535/MT, FoB and 75*75mm billet around USD 520-525/MT, FoB India.

Falling domestic billet prices and high global offers attract exporters

Domestic billet prices in India have fallen sharply. SteelMint reference price assessment for 125*125 mm billet assessed at INR 34,200/MT (Ex-Mumbai basic prices, GST @18% extra), down by INR 1,300/MT W-o-W.

On the other hand, global billet export offers have climbed further amid less supply. Offers from CIS nations are assessed around USD 545-550/MT, FoB Black Sea, up by USD 10-15/MT W-o-W.
