India: Odisha Iron Ore Dispatches Fall 9% in Feb’18

Odisha – India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded a decrease of 9% from last two consecutive months in iron ore dispatches in Feb’18 to 5.05 MnT against 5.53 MnT in Jan’18.

However, the Y-o-Y dispatches recorded an increase of 13% in Feb’18 as against 4.47 MnT in Feb’17. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of captive miner- SAIL & Tata Steel.

During the first eleven months of FY’18 (Apr-Feb), Odisha recorded an increase of 14% in iron ore dispatches to 63.47 MnT as against 55.83 MnT in the same period last year FY’17.

Five working iron ore mines including Serajuddin Mines, MESCO had gone out of operations as they failed to shell out the penalties mandated by the Supreme Court, but with the due permission of Apex Court later in Feb’18 few major miners including Serajuddin Mines and Essel Mining resumed sales.

Among Odisha’s merchant iron ore mines – Rungta Mines dispatched the highest quantity of ore 1.86 MnT followed by KJS Ahluwalia 0.61 MnT and OMC 0.53 MnT.

Rungta Mines – India’s largest private merchant miner’s, dispatches recorded a decrease of 11% in its dispatches against in Jan’18 which was at 2.1 MnT.

Dispatches of iron ore from Indrani Patnaik has decreased sharply by 70% M-o-M in Feb’18 to 0.21 MnT as against 0.71 MnT in Jan’18. Dispatches from KJS Ahluwalia recorded an increase of 20% M-o-M in Feb’18 to 0.61 MnT as against 0.51 MnT in Jan’18.

Iron ore dispatches from state-owned miner- OMC was recorded at 0.53 MnT in Feb’18, registering a decrease of 22 % M-o-M as against 0.68 MnT in Jan ’18.
