According to the vessel line-up data compiled by CoalMint Research, Pakistan’s coal imports have fallen 39% on the month to 620,547 MT in Feb’18. The country had imported 1,009,107 MT coal in Jan’18.
Pakistan’s imported coal need arises majorly from the two newly commissioned power plants (Sahiwal and Port Qasim Power Project) and from various Cement, Power and Textile industries present in the country.
During Feb’18, many cement, power, other small scale companies and traders which were associated in importing coal in Jan’18; had not received any coal shipments during the month.
Companies such as Bestway Cement, Awan Trading, FEBL Power, Petro Coal Synergie , Pioneer Cement and others, which had been accounted for the import of 511,567 MT coal in Jan’18, were missing from the coal importers list in Feb’18.
Still, coal import from Pakistan in Feb’18 was marked 9% higher on the year, as the country had imported 571,160 MT coal in Feb’17.
Major Coal Receivers in Feb’18:
Port Qasim Electric power had received highest coal shipment of 156,920 MT in Feb’18, which was 23% lower than the previous month’s total of 204,350 MT.
Huaneng Shandong Ruyi, the operator of Sahiwal Power Plant, had received 114,760 MT coal during the month, up 193% M-o-M from 39,150 MT in Jan’18.
Lucky Cement, D G Khan Cement, Cherat Cement Company were among the other major coal receivers during the month.
Country-wise Coal Imports in Feb’18:
Pakistan had received coal shipments from only two countries -South Africa and Indonesia, in Feb’18.
Pakistan’s coal import from South Africa had fell to a 12 month low of 463,627 MT in Feb’18, down 27% M-o-M from 632,940 MT in Jan’18. Coal import from Indonesia had decreased 52% M-o-M to 156,920 MT during the month.
