Russia: Iron Ore Exports Down 20% Y-o-Y in Dec’17

Russia, the 8th largest exporter of iron ore exported 1.67 MnT iron ore in Dec’17, according to the trade statistics released by Russian Customs.

Russian iron ore exports have decreased by 10% M-o-M in Dec’17 as against 1.85 MnT in Nov’17. It also witnessed a decline of 20% Y-o-Y in Dec’17 against 2.08 MnT in Dec’16.

In CY’17, Russian iron ore export increased by 12% to 20.86 MnT against 18.55 MnT in CY’16.

In CY’17, China continued to be the largest importer at 5.02 MnT, down 21% Y-o-Y as against 6.32 MnT in CY’16, followed by Ukraine at 2.12 MnT (up 38%), and Turkey at 2.06 MnT (up 14%).

An agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrate) exports were down by 11% M-o-M to 1.19 MnT in Dec’17 against 1.33 MnT in Nov’17. However, the Y-o-Y change in Dec’17 depicted an increase of 11% as compared to 1.07 MnT in Dec’16.

Non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps & fines) exports decreased by 6% M-o-M to 0.48 MnT in Dec’17 compared to Nov’17, recorded at 0.51 MnT. It was also down by 52% Y-o-Y in Dec’17 as compared to 1 MnT in Dec’16.

Country-wise Russia Iron Ore Export-:

China stood the largest importer of iron ore from Russia in Dec’17 at 0.54 MnT, contributing 32% of total share of Russian exports (up 4% M-o-M) , followed by Turkey at 0.39 MnT (climbing four fold M-o-M), Ukraine at 0.32 MnT (up 14%), Poland 0.12 MnT (down 20%) and Slovakia at 0.12 MnT (up 33%).
