Brazil’s Billet Export to USA Rise by 82% in Jan’18

The world’s second-largest semi finished exporter- Brazil, has exported about 710,000 MT billets in the first month of 2018, recent released data by Brazilian customs reported.

Brazilian billet exports have decline slightly by 2% M-o-M in Jan’18 against 720,000 MT in Dec’17. While on yearly basis in Jan’18, Brazilian billet exports reflected a rise of 2% as it was 700,000 MT in Jan’17.

United States continues to remain the largest billet buyer of Brazil –

USA stands out to be the largest importer of Brazilian billet, importing 0.31 MnT in Jan’18, followed by Germany at 0.08 MnT, South Korea (0.05 MnT), Turkey (0.04 MnT) and China (0.04 MnT).

Further in the month of Jan’18, the billet exports by the nation to USA rise by 82.35% against 0.17 MnT in Dec’17. While, in Jan’18 USA witnessed an imports of around 45% Brazilian billet.

USA imported around 33% of the total billet exported by Brazil in the calendar year of 2017. It may also be mentioned that USA has been the largest importer since CY 2011, while in CY 2010 South Korea topped the list.

In the month of Jan’18, the major export of billets were from the ports of Vitoria (0.28 MnT), Nao Declarado (0.24) & Rio De Janeiro (0.20 MnT). While in Jan’17 it was Vitoria (0.34 MnT), Pecem (0.18) & Rio De Janeiro (0.18 MnT).

The crude steel production of Brazil was around 34.40 MnT in 2017 which increased by 13.86% against 30.21 MnT in 2016. Prior to this it was at 33.26 MnT in CY15, according to the World Steel Association.

Presently, the export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 520-530/MT FoB India, 125*125 3SP at USD 505-515/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 535-545/MT FoB China.
