Brazil: Manganese Ore Exports Up by 6% M-o-M in Jan’18

According to the Brazilian customs, the country has witnessed a marginal increase of 6% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore exports.

Brazilian Manganese Ore export in Jan’18 was at 0.33 MnT against 0.31 MnT in Dec’17. However, on yearly basis, Brazilian Manganese Ore exports reflected a whopping rise of 120% as it was 0.15 MnT in Jan’17.

A recent supply shortage of Manganese ore from South Africa has provided Brazil an opportunity to extend its exports as global demand for the commodity has increased substantially.

China’s Appetite for Brazilian Manganese Ore

China stands out to be the largest importer of Brazilian manganese ore, importing 0.27 MnT in Jan’18, followed by Uruguay at 0.03 MnT, while South Korea, Argentina, and India imported similar quantity of Manganese Ore from Brazil at 0.01 MnT each.

China imported more than 80% of the total Manganese Ore exported by Brazil. Moreover, in Jan’18 China witnessed a substantial M-o-M increase of 35% in its Manganese Ore imports from Brazil.

China inquired a huge amount of Manganese Ore to replenish its stock before lunar year holidays and hence an increase in its imports from Brazil supports the figures.
