India: JSW Steel Eyes Increasing Iron Pellet Feed to 60%

India’s largest steel producer in terms of production is eyeing to increase its pellet feed in iron making by upto 60%.

Mr. ND Rao, Senior Vice President, of JSW Steel Projects mentioned this at the Asia Steel-2018, an international conference jointly organized by Tata steel and the Indian Institute of Metals.

“We intend to increase our pellet production capacity to 50 MnT in coming years and increase our pellet feed to 60% in iron making”, he said.

At present company operates 13 MnT pellet plant (9 MnT in Vijayanagar and 4 MnT in Dolvi).

He also mentioned that India’s installed pellet capacity is around 90 MnT pa. And in the days to come, steel mills will prefer pellets over sinter as blast furnace feed.

JSW Techno Projects Management Ltd, a JSW Group firm, has signed definitive agreements to acquire 49 per cent equity shares of Brahmani River Pellets Ltd (BRPL), which operates a 4 MnT pellet plant at Jajpur ( Odisha).

JSW Steel has set a crude steel production guidance of 16.5 MnT in FY18 against an installed capacity of 18 MnT. Company has ambitious plans to increase its crude steel production to 40 MnT by 2025.
