Indian Iron Pellet Exports Down by 28% in Jan’18

According to the customs data maintained with SteelMint, Indian pellet exports have registered a fall of 28% M-o-M to 0.64 MnT in Jan’18 as against 0.89 MnT in Dec’17. With reduced buying interest from Chinese steel mills and fall in pellet export offers in Dec’17, Indian pellet manufacturers focussed more on domestic sales amid improved realizations.

On yearly basis, pellet export decreased sharply to 45% in Jan’18. Pellet exports were registered at 1.17 MnT in Jan’17.

However in the first ten months of FY’18 Indian pellet exports moved up 13% to 7.63 MnT against 6.75 MnT in the same period last year.

KIOCL became the largest Indian pellet exporter in Jan’18-:

KIOCL became the largest exporter for Jan’18 with exports at 0.22 MnT, accounting for 35% share in total pellet exports from India. JSPL recorded the 2nd largest exports at 0.15 MnT, followed by Essar Steel at 0.11 MnT, BRPL at 0.06 MnT, Arya Iron & Steel at 0.06 MnT, Bagadiya Brothers at 0.05 MnT.

 

China accounted for 91% share Indian pellet exports in Jan’18-: China continues to be the largest importer of Indian pellet in Jan’18 with imports of 0.59 MnT, down by 30% as against 0.84 MnT in Dec’17. UAE stood the second largest importer at 0.06 MnT.

Paradeep port recorded the highest pellet exports in Jan’18-: Pellet exports from Paradeep port recorded highest in Jan’18 at 0.31 MnT, followed by Mangalore port at 0.22 MnT and Dhamra port at 0.11 MnT.
