Heavy rainfall in Joda-Barbil region of Orissa has hit iron ore transportation from Orissa.Sources say that government has ordered a closure of NH 215 which has affected movement for Paradip, Haldia, Vizag and other parts of country.
It has been closed till 31st September, but practically situation is really worst and it may be extended further for a week or so.
“We are facing difficulty to source iron ore from Orissa. Earlier the mining issue and now the local transport problem & the prolonged monsoons have become major cause concerns”, said
Sponge iron plant owner based in Raipur.
Miners kept their offers unchanged over few weeks, despite
falling sponge prices, which has corrected by almost by Rs 1000/ton in a month’s
time.
“Due to heavy rainfall, movement of Iron ore has been
affected. There is no point in revising our prices as we have previous
commitments to be fulfilled†said a miner based in Bhubhaneshwar.
Mines owners are reluctant to reduce prices
of iron ore lumps. And on the other side, booking of material, applying for permission and
transporting it are among other concerns that a sponge iron manufacturer has to deal with.
