>> Coal shortage at the thermal power plants in Andhra Pradesh is about to ease as coal dispatched from Odisha mines is to be soon delivered.
Also, the Chief Minister of the state is heard to have written a letter to the Union Minister for Railways and Coal to allot additional rakes to help increasing coal supply to the state’s power plants.
>> Canadain coal miner, Teck Resources, says that the damage at the Elkview Coking Coal processing plant is likely to take off-line 2 MnT of saleable Coking Coal output. The Elkview mine, situated in British Columbia, bears a Coking Coal production capacity of 7 MnTPA. The mine produces Coking Coal with around 72% CSR, 21% Volatile Matter and 9.5% Ash.
The company has expressed interest in selling the coal to India as the buyers in the country were looking for diversifying imports from Australia.
>>Coal exports from the Richard Bay Coal Terminal in South Africa were up in 2017 by around 5.3% to around 76.47 MnT over the exports in the previous year. Notably, the higher exports were achieved despite the occurrence of severe weather disruptions that led to lengthy and unusual port closures. In 2016, 72.6 MnT of coal was exported from the terminal.
