After registering first price hike in a months’ time on 13th Jan’18, Tokyo Steel has again raised scrap purchase prices further by JPY 500-1000/MT at its different works with effect from tomorrow (i.e. 17 Jan’18).
Japan’s leading EAF steel producer – Tokyo Steel has lifted its domestic scrap purchase prices consecutively second time after keeping prices unchanged for almost a one months’ time. As per latest price circular, scrap buying prices have moved up further by JPY 1000/MT (USD 9) at Tahara and Utsunomiya works and by JPY 500/MT (USD 5) at west Japan works like Okayama ,Kyushu and Utsunomiya works which would be effective from tomorrow (i.e. 17th Jan’18) for all grades of scrap at all five works in Japan.
Now H2 scrap fetches JPY 38,500/MT (USD 348) at largest work in central Japan-Tahara. While the same grade fetches JPY 37,500/MT (USD 339) at Utsunomiya works in north Japan, H2 bids are placed at JPY 36,500/MT(USD 330) for Okayama and Kyushu works in west Japan while for its Takamatsu Steel Center company keeps bids at JPY 36,000/MT (USD 325).
South Korean leading EAF steelmaker Hyundai Steel has raised Japanese imported scrap bids by JPY 1500/MT in line with the sharp hike in scrap purchase bids for Japanese monthly scrap export tender Kanto Tetsugen for Jan’18.
Recently Japanese scrap sellers from Kanto region increased scrap export prices further and market participants are expecting Japanese scrap prices to remain strong till the end of Jan’18 amid tightened supply and strong demand.
