Coal Market Snapshots

>> The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China has said that by 2020 large coal mining companies in that country, each with the production capacity of more than 100 MnTPA, will be consolidated to form mega-miners. The underlying intent is to create globally competitive mining companies, and also to modernize the sector.

As in 2017, the country had more than 4,000 coal mines, with the total capacity of around 3.41 BnTPA.

>>Interestingly, Vietnam had in 2017 exported around 84.7% higher coal despite the production falling by 0.18 MnT, according to the inputs received. The major destinations were: Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.

By 2020, the country aims to produce roughly 86.4 MnT of coal.
