Steel Users’ Federation of India popularly known as `SUFI’ has been able to bring various stake holders of steel industry on a common platform and is marching towards achieving its objective to achieve higher per capita consumption of steel and thereby promoting growth and excellence in steel industry.
In order to promote, encourage, applaud and acknowledge excellence achieved by our industry, the SUFI Board organised the first “SUFI AWARDS 2017” specially dedicated to steel industry on 16 Dec’17 in Mumbai.
The award function observed presence of stalwarts from steel companies like JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Kalyani Steel, Essar Steel, ACCIL, Nippon Steel, CRIL to name a few.
Mr Dilip Oommen, CEO & MD – Essar Steel, India shared valuable insights on stronger global growth momentum in steel sector. He shared that India’s crude steel production has increased this year and in first ten months of CY17 was recorded at 84.1 MnT.
“Roadmap to India’s dream of attaining 300 MnT crude steel capacity lies in increased steel consumption, import substitution, skill development, R&D, adherence to environmental standards, logistical boost, capital intensive plans and policies that boost growth”, he added.
Mr. Nikunj Turakhia – President SUFI highlighted the benefits that ” Indian steel industry will have from recent reforms adopted like RERA, Demonetization and GST. These reforms will help us to move from unorganised sector to organised sector”.
Dr. Ahmed S. Firoz, Chief Economist – Joint Plant Committee, Ministry of Steel stressed on the importance of application based research in steel making.
This was followed by panel discussion in which Mr Sanjay Jayaram, JSW shared about upcoming steel capacities JSW Steel. The company is expected to ramp up its capacity to 40 MnT pa over the next decade including both greenfield and brownfield expansions.
He also highlighted on the development plans on on automotive steel for production of all steel grades required in making auto-motives in India so as to make the country import independent.
