Anthracite Coal global offers have moved up on account of the twin impact of the supply shortage of Breeze Coke and escalating Coking Coal prices. Prices of the coal have co-relation with the prices of the two commodities as Anthracite Coal could be used interchangeably with Breeze Coke and also could be blended with Coking Coal during coke production.
Global offers for Anthracite Coal have move up to around USD 143/MT CFR India, according to the latest assessment. The offers are higher by around USD 8/MT over the offers in the week last.
However, the rising Anthracite Coal offers will pose no concern for the Indian buyers, as they prefer alternate fuels. As such, demand for the coal has been lackluster, and there is also no prospect for any upturn in the demand in the future.
As the demand has been sluggish, imports of the coal have been insignificant. During the first two weeks of Dec’17, only one consignment of 28,200 MT had been imported. The consignment, arrived from Finland, was imported by Tata Steel through the Paradip port.
