Bangladesh: Scrap Importers Turn Silent; Ship Breaking Prices Move Up

In line with strong global scrap prices, imported scrap offers to Bangladesh have moved up further. Price assessment for Shredded 211 scrap from UK stood at USD 365/MT, CFR Chittagong. These offers have increased from the last week’s assessment which was around USD 355-360/MT, CFR.

HMS 1 from Brazil assessed at USD 347/MT, CFR Chittagong while offers for P&S scrap are heard above USD 360/MT. Few offers for P&S also heard around USD 365/MT, CFR Chittagong. Few offers for containerized HMS 1&2 (80:20) heard at USD 340-345/MT, CFR but buying is still subdued.

“Bangladesh scrap importers have slowed down now. This week very low buying interest is seen and not much trading reported but in the last deal HMS 1 in containers in small volumes was booked at USD 347/MT, CFR levels.”- shared a market participant in Bangladesh.

Ship breaking prices in Bangladesh climb by USD 10/MT W-o-W –

Approaching year end is traditionally a very active period for ship breaking industry as most of the ship owners look for selling old ships in order to balance their books. Following which ship breaking prices across subcontinental markets have moved upward sharply.

This week ship breaking prices in Bangladesh raised further by USD 20/MT on W-o-W basis.
The latest ship breaking prices for general cargo assessed at USD 410/LDT and USD 430/LDT, CFR Bangladesh for tanker cargoes. These prices in last week were hovering around USD 400/LDT for general cargo and around USD 420/LDT tanker cargoes on CFR Bangladesh basis.
