Billet Imports in Turkey moved up by around 41% M-o-M in Oct’17 as per the recent released data by Turkey’s custom showed.
As per the customs, the nation has imported about 520,000 MT Billet in Oct’17 against 370,000 MT in September 2017, surge by 40.54 % on monthly premises. In line on yearly basis, imports were up by 26.82% against 410,000 MT in Oct’16.
Further, on yearly basis, in first 10 months of CY 2017 (Jan-Oct), the imports are down by 31.5% to 3.74 MnT against same preceding last year at 5.46 MnT.
As per the SteelMint’s assessment in October 2017, the crude steel production of the Turkey was around 3.31 MnT which has been increased by 10% from Sept’17 against 3 MnT and in CY17(Jan-Oct) it was approximately 30.95 MnT. Prior to this it was at 33.16 MnT in CY16 & 31.52 MnT in CY15.
Country wise:
During October 2017, the largest exporter of Billet to Turkey was Russia – 190,000 MT, Brazil – 140,000 MT & Ukraine at 100,000 MT.
Similarly, in the total billet imports during 2017 (Jan-Oct’17), the major sellers of billet to Turkey was – Russia 1.43 MnT (38.10%), Ukraine 0.96 MnT (25.66%), Brazil 0.55 MnT (14.77%), Netherlands 0.12 MnT (3.32%) & Iran 0.12 MnT (3.14%).
Key Updates
1. Turkey’s ferrous scrap imports has increased by 6.46% M-o-M to 2.14 MnT in Oct’17 against 2.01 MnT in Sep’17.
2. The reference index price for US origin HMS (80:20) scrap stood at USD 328/MT, CFR Turkey, prices increased by USD 14/MT on recent trade activities.
3. On monthly basis, Turkish Rebar export offers gained by USD 4/MT owing to supportive demand, price assessment at USD 520-530/MT FoB.
