Turkish Coal imports have attained the highest monthly total for CY17 in Oct, as per the customs data.
According to the data provided,Turkey’s coal imports increased 10% M-o-M to 4.27 MnT in Oct’17, which was also the highest monthly total in CY17, the previous best being 4.26 MnT in Aug’17. Coal imports had also recorded a growth of 8% on the yearly basis, against 3.95 MnT in Oct’16.
Total coal imports by the country during Jan’17-Oct’17 has reached 35.46 MnT, up 6% compared with the import total of 33.53 MnT achieved during the same period in CY16.
Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Imports of Non-coking coal have recorded the only noticeable growth during the month. Non-coking coal imports increased 22% M-o-M to 3.39 MnT in Oct’17, had a share of 80% in total coal imports.
Pet coke imports remained almost constant compared with the previous month. While, Coking coal, Anthracite and Met coke imports have fallen 18%, 45% and 60% respectively, during the month.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Exporters:
Russia overtook Colombia to become the largest coal exporter to Turkey in Nov’17. Monthly coal shipments from Russia were marked highest for CY17 at 1.55 MnT in Oct’17.
On the monthly basis, Russian coal exports increased 3% compared to 1.5 MnT in Sep’17, while on the yearly basis, exports rose 11% in comparison with 1.4 MnT coal in Oct’16.
Colombian coal exports were marked 1.52 MnT in Oct’17, up 21% M-o-M compared with 126 MnT in Sep’17. Exports were also 7% higher on the year compared with 1.42 MnT in Oct’16.
US were the third-largest coal exporter in Oct’17. The country registered increase both on the monthly as well as on the yearly basis in coal supplies during the month.
South Korea, likewise Russia achieved its highest monthly coal shipment to Turkey during the month for CY17, total exports from Korea was recorded 0.39 MnT in Oct’17.
Canada, Venezuela, Australia and Iran were among the remaining major coal suppliers during the month.
